This course is designed to gain insights and understanding of principles and theories about biochemistry, the students are introduced to the chemical and molecular reactions that sustain life. It integrates lessons learned from general chemistry and organic chemistry in relation to biochemical and physiological processes and pathways of importance to life. It focuses on the study of structure, physical and chemical properties of biomolecules and how these properties relate to metabolism, health and survival of an organism. Topics also include role of hormones and enzyme in metabolic pathways, and biochemical aspects of nutrition.
