This course focuses on the historical and conceptual introduction to Cognitive psychology, which helps students understand what is happening within our mind that leads to a stimulus (input) and response (output) and specifically investigating internal mental processes such as perception, attention, language, memory, and thinking. This course also lays out the foundations of the subject and raising some of the important themes, issues, reasoning, and problem-solving that will enable students to understand and gain insights.

This course orients the students into the rudiments of psychological assessment as well as principles, method of conducting psychological testing . The principles, methods, and uses of psychological assessment are discussed with the emphasis on topics about issues of item analysis, reliability, and validity of test construction. Administration, scoring, and interpretation of objective cognitive and affective tests used in various applied fields of psychology, particularly the educational, industrial, and government settings are covered. Ethical considerations as well as current trends and issues in psychological assessment in the Philippines setting are discussed.

An introduction to the nature and causes, and possible interventions, of psychological disorders. The students are expected to be familiar with the nomenclature and classifications of mental disorders, by the end of the course. Indigenous concepts of abnormality and abnormal behavior will also be discussed. Ethical considerations in abnormal psychology/clinical psychology are discussed.
